With new walls, travel bans, and tariffs, Trump’s second term has already reshaped America’s place in the world.
Donald Trump has made a dramatic return to the White House, and just a few months into his new term, big changes are already happening. After winning the 2024 election with promises to “Make America Great Again,” Trump has moved fast on immigration, trade, and travel.
One of his first actions has been to tighten immigration rules. Border security has been strengthened, visa approvals have slowed, and deportations have increased. Trump has also ordered more construction on the border wall, saying it is needed for safety, while critics argue it’s costly and ineffective. Trump has brought back a version of the travel ban, blocking people from several Middle Eastern, African, and Latin American countries. His team says it’s about national security, but opponents call it unfair. Lawsuits against the ban have already been filed.
At the same time, Trump has reignited his trade war with China. He has rolled out new tariffs on Chinese goods, calling past trade deals “disasters” and promising to bring jobs back home. This has sparked a tit-for-tat escalation, with China placing tariffs on American goods and making new trade deals with Europe, Africa, and Latin America to lessen its reliance on the U.S. Experts warn that the renewed trade fight could hurt the global economy, which is still recovering from the pandemic. Trump, however, has stayed firm, telling supporters, “We don’t back down, and we don’t apologize.”
He has also threatened to pull out of the USMCA trade deal, saying it still gives too much to Mexico and Canada. If talks break down, it could hurt industries like farming, cars and technology.
As Trump pushes ahead with his bold agenda, America faces big uncertainty. Supporters believe his tough style will make the country stronger. Critics warn it could damage the economy and relationships with other nations. Either way, Trump’s second term is already shaking up the world.
